OK, so I realised I could put it off no longer… it was time to crack open the EYFS Profile Handbook once again and see if I could make better sense of it.
I’m not sure what has changed, (probably just the pressure of so many requests from our lovely community for some useful resources to support assessment in early years) but something clicked and I could finally see past the waffle and started to draft and design some beneficial resources that I hope will make EYFS assessment that little bit easier.
As well as updating the old EYFS profile assessment packs, I also wanted to delve a little deeper this time, creating resources you could share with parents, refer to in the classroom when carrying out observations and also expanding the packs to cover birth right through to 60 months.
Last night I shared the first of many resources that cover the new Early Learning Goals and it went down a storm.
These EYFS ELG posters cover all 17 goals but are broken down into smaller chunks, to make them easier to understand and observe.
I have also created them using child friendly language, in the hope that they can be shared with parents. I personally prefer them as a reference for assessment too, as I still feel the handbook goals contain a lot of information that can be easily misinterpreted – so I hope they offer some clarity.
What to expect…
So here’s a quick run down of what to expect over the next few weeks:
– Birth to 60+ months record booklet
– EYFS profile booklet
– EYFS ELG stickers
– Early Learning Goal hexagons for display
– Early Learning Goal Posters
– Early Learning Goal booklet
– Characteristics of Effective Learning Posters
– Characteristics of Effective Learning display
– Characteristics of Effective Learning booklet
– Characteristics of Effective Learning stickers
I really hope you find the resources useful and as always, if there is something you’d like to see made available regarding EYFS assessment, please get in touch and I will see what I can do.
